The Maharani offers superb Indian food, specialising in Tandoori cuisine - the art of cooking in clay ovens without the use of oil or fat in order to ensure the natural juices and flavours of the food are retained. The skilful and individual use of seasonings and flavourings by their top class chefs ensures clients enjoy the finest Indian dishes. Also offered is vegetarian and continental food giving a wide range for every taste and making eating out at the Maharani a delightful culinary experience.
The oriental theme is continued in the interior décor with antique hookah pipes, and Indian copper and silver carved coffee pots. Intricately carved, brass studded Arab doors, Mughlai prints on the walls, exotic hangings, and soft Sitar music playing in the background all complete the mysterious eastern atmosphere - but the service and presentation are immaculately modern and of the present day (as are the washroom facilities). A reception area with comfortable, sofas and a bar with a magnificent selection of cocktails, many unique to the restaurant, ensures a relaxed start to the evening. (Try 'Stoned!' - a fiery concoction of gin, vodka, rum, iced tea, coke and fresh mint - 'the only remedy for hypertension and jet lag' the Maharani barman boasts).
Tandoori dishes include marinated king prawns in a traditional masala sauce; Achar Goscht - lamb cubes in yoghurt with ginger, garlic and fresh chilli; Kadaimurg - boneless chicken tossed in fresh herbs and subtle flavourings. The house speciality is Dhal Maharani, a vegetarian dish with a taste quite out of this world. Continental dishes include charcoal grilled lobster and prime tenderloin beef. Choices of salads and vegetables prepared in the restaurant's own special way accompany the main courses, and there is a delightful choice of desserts. The price range starts very modestly, so there is something to suit everyone's pocket.
Open six days a week, for dinner, and lunches at weekends and public holidays, it also offers a free pick up and drop off service for hotel guests, and an outdoor catering facility. Bookings can be made from 3 p.m. on telefax 2439.

This attractive, high class restaurant, built 9 years ago, now has established its name and reputation as uniquely special on the South Coast. It has a regular clientele, and is a favourite for tourists and visitors.
Architecturally designed on Moorish lines, the white domed building is like a palace from the Orient. Fountains cascade into giant clamshells, artistic rockeries and hanging orchids abound both inside the building and outside in its large, beautifully landscaped spacious garden with rustling palm trees and coourful, tropical flowering shrubs, and where there is ample parking space for the many visitors.
Maharani specialities are many and varied - try lassi as a starter (whipped yoghurt flavoured with oriental spices); soups include gaffari - an extract of chicken delicately flavoured with fresh coriander.
