THE MALINDI GREEN TOWN MOVEMENT

Motto: Make Malindi Green and Clean

The movement was formed after a two weeks seminar sponsored by the Green Town Projects of the Royal Dutch Government. It was formed as an N.G.O. under the aucipicies of the Municipal Council of Malindi through the Urban development Department of the Ministry of Local Government. Three Action plans were drawn and a management committee of volunteers drawn from the seminar made under the Chairmanship of Mr. Godfrey Karume.

The immediate duty was to create awareness of the existence of the N.G.O. in Malindi and to educate the community the importance of enhancing environment for better standards of living and economic gain through improved tourism on ECO-Tourism.

The committee thought of activities that would give the movement maximum publicity and community attention immediately.

Mr. Godfrey Karume, the chairman of Malindi Green Town Movement, recently planted 1000 royal palms and 1000 mango trees near the beach and along the Airport avenue.

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of environment sent their Permanent secretaries as Guests to our functions.

The K.W.S, the C.D.A, the area member of parliament and the Town Mayor and all other Local leaders have shown and expressed their sincere support to the movement by being involved in the organising the programs and welcoming our Guests during the public functions we have carried out.
