The Continental Resort Mombasa

Continental Resort

This hotel is somewhat unique on the Kenyan Coast. It is more formal and glamorous than the laid back tropical hotels more commonly found on these beaches. The Continental wall-to-wall carpeting, elevators, and an indoor piano lounge. Men arrive in business suits - it is not a place to wander around with sandy feet. The lobby is impressive with a high, huge atrium, marble floors, and fountains. There are 192 rooms on four floors. The carpeted rooms are comfortable and equipped with every modern convenience: telephone, colour TV, minibar, air-conditioning and a private balcony which is angled to give you a good view of the wonderful pool below and a glimpse of the sea. Other facilities include; many restaurants, conference facilities, banquet halls, a casino, and a sports centre with a health spa.

I lived and worked in Mombasa in 1995-1997, and have visited most of the hotels and resorts on the beach, I still remeber and admire the hospitality and the warmth of those hotels and their friendly staff. Jamal S. Ibrahim 29/8/01

Bahari Beach Hotel

It is situated on the renowned Nyali Beach on Kenya's North Coast overlooking the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Bahari Beach Hotel is set within lush and colourful gardens, where palms, tropical flowering shrubs and bougainvillaea form a superb backdrop for the water garden and its streams and fountains. The Hotel's architecture was influenced by old Swahili Villages and built in traditional style from coral blocks with Makuti (palm thatched roofs). The main building contains spacious restaurants, a comfortable lounge bar with satellite TV, gift shop and gym. They are decorated with brightly coloured painting of the Masai people and furnished with a decor that makes intriguing use of traditional material. Each of the 100 beds is ensuite, individually air-conditioned and elegantly styled glass doors open to spacious terraces or balconies.

We ( 2 adults / 2 kids )stayed last year from Easter Monday for 6 days at this Hotel. The Rate / offer was extremely good. My kids enjoyed the All-Inclusive concept and so did we, the parents who ultimately had to foot the bill. The Pool, the Table-Tennis and the Billiard-Table ensured, that the kids never were bored. The opportunity to order Sodas and Hamburgers with chips or other snacks, whenever they wanted and without having to ask the parents, was an unforgettable experience for the kids. If the Rates remain reasonable for redidents, then we certainly will come back! 17.4.01 Kurt Iten

Together with my husband and friends, I stayed at Bahari Beach Hotel in February 2005 and I felt 'at home' from the first minute! A very lovely place, gentle people (staff and guest ;-)), good atmosphere, wonderful tropical garden and a sensational view over the indian ocean! For our next stop in Kenya, we will again go to Bahari Beach Hotel. Barbara 23/2/05

I have just returned from a two week holiday in Bamburi Beach hotel. If you want a hotel that is cheep, clean and packed full of friendly staff combined with excellent food then this is the hotel for you! I found the staff all fantastic and really friendly, and I was always greeted with a smile. It was very sad saying goodbye as it was like leaving old friends. As a lone traveller I was worried that I might get lonely but that never happened. George and Leslie two of the pool side waiters made sure that I was always topped up with plenty of drinks. The Animation team where fantastic and those with teenage children will find that they never get bored. John and Jimmy where fantastic at getting every one involved in games, and even introduced me to other guests staying in the hotel. The food was excellent with lots of verity to choose from, the rooms where basic but always cleaned to the highest standard. I would defiantly return to this hotel and will be recommending it to anyone who is thinking of going here. Claire 2/9/06

This hotel is very good for families and couples. The staff are very good. Lookout for Gabrial; Sammy; Mary who are especialy good. The food is very good. We will be going back very soon. Tom@Janet Rooks ENGLAND. 29/1/07

Having visited the Bamburi Beach Hotel in December 2005 (please see my earlier favourable comments)My wife and I returned in November 2006 with our daughter and two grandaughters. Guess what... It was just as we remembered it. The staff actually remembered us. We were welcomed back like a long lost family. Our grandaughters took to John (animations). He actually got them to mix in with the others. A great achievement. Well done John. It would be wrong to single out anyone since all the staff were excellent.
I took some srticles over with me to give to a local orphanage/childrens home and was taken to Baraka Childrens Home run by a lovely Kenyan lady, Trephonia Nzioka. All but one of the children are orphs because of HIV/AIDS. Well done Trephonia for your sterling work. She is embarking on relocating to a new home which is being built. If anyone would like to help her please contact me patrick.dipper@virgin.net. The Kenyan people are wonderful and theose at the Bamburi Beach Hotel are no exception. Patrick Dipper 11/2/07

For 7 days good value, good bring girls to the room unlike other hotels where they charge you for an extra room, plus the bar is good and manager free and easy. So if your into woman and wine then check it out. Example it cost with breakfast 7 days $210 US. But its muslim no meat only the girls, but plenty of other places to eat. I shall returnHotel. Stayed here staff friendly but management rude and treats staff with no respect(Mr Dean) would not stay there agian becuase of him and his attitude to some guests and his staff, shame becuase general manger Mr Charles is nice, and the location is great come on Bamburi Hotel directors get a decent assistant manager. The staff work too many hours for too little pay, this I did not like so would while ever Mr dean is there not stay there again Carol 3/7/02

My friend and I stayed here three times in two years and it was brilliant. The safari we went out was the most awe inspiring moment of my life. We were friends with a lot of the beach boys and saw a lot of the outside life of the hotel and into the villages. Does anyone know if Nancy Marshall stills visits the Bamburi. She used to spend a lot of her time there and was very well known by all the staff and past guests. I have fond memories of Kenya but do not know if i will ever return mabe one day. Gillian Clarkson 10/12/04

Stayed at the Bambouri Beach Hotel from 11th December to 24th December 2005. Made many freinds at this resort and have booked again for November 2006. Excellent freindly staff and wonderfull beach location. Recommended. Patrick Dipper 28/7/06

We stayed in Bamburi Beach hotel from 28 september until 12 october 2006. It was fantastic!!! Great staff and management every time friendly, nice and gentle. They treaded us so nice! Unfourtantely there are still people (guests) who thinks everything is aloud and slavery or kolonasition is still going on!! I was a shamed sometimes!! But we are coming back sure!! It was excellent there good food, nice rooms clean and a great place to relax and chill out. Eddy & Grid 15/06/06

23.11.06 we have never stayed in such a dirty place, the bathrooms are disgusting, and the hotel should be downgraded to 1/2 a star. its no better than a bed and breakfast in bognor on a bad day. lovely staff though, but the generator spewing fumes into the rear pool area and snack bar gets abit much. the beach is a no go area, day and night. the hotel know this and so dont put any furniture on it. dont go if you any standards, this will put you off kenya forever. which is a shame, the country deserves better. liam 28/11/06

Absolutley fab hotel, staff and location - will definately be back in 2007 - well done!!!!!! Julie Doggett 21/12/06

Amazing holiday, very much enjoyed. We met some great people there and always a happy feeling. Entertainers and staff were amazing and made the experience even more enjoyable, they helped you with trip choices and any questions about Kenya itself. The trips and safari's were amazing and is very much recomened! Olivia Seymour 25/1/08

My friend and I take a girl getaway trip to Mombasa towards the end of the year and last year we ended up at Bamburi Beach Resort. We loved the ambiance and the rooms. We had a room over looking the bar and beach. That was a great holiday and we vowed to go back there with our group of friends. it is too beautiful to be kept a secret. Nzisa Musyoki 2/4/09

I visited this hotel for the third time this september and this time i took my whole family. we all cannot praise it enough. this was my first trip since the complete renovations and i must say that they have done a fantastic job. the rooms are of a much better standard than some of the so-called 4* hotels, and thee food was excellent. the thing that make this hotel special is the staff. everyone speaks to you! they are very friendly, work hard and cannot do enough for you. i have seen the service at whitesands, travellers beach and club and they pale in comparison. - well done bamburi beach hotel! and thanks for a fantastic holiday, my family and i will certainly return and have no problems in recommending this hotel to any visitors. Andrew Gough 22/9/02

it is a very beautiful hotel with good service but the only problem is the food which i recommend should be improved, otherwise i am impressed with it. Rushil 16/1/03

Abdul a very friendly, kind and sympathetic waiter. P.manager:keep it up, SaidI very friendly, note:my room had alot of mosquitoes, Mavice 07/07/03

I stayed here for 2 weeks in february. I had the best time. The room was excellent, we had no musquitos. The staff is very friendly and amazingly rapid. But the DJ should turn more modern music. And a good animation team, especially John... Karolien 27/2/04

This was a lovely Resort, I had a chance to stay at the Resort with my parents this past June. It was a good way to end my vacation while I was in Kenya and I happened to tell all my friends about this place and they all want to come to Africa now. I would appreciate some type of brochures as some of my friends would like to have a hard copy to plan their holidays with. Excellent place to stay. Stella Njema, Houston, Texas 1/7/04

Stayed at Bamburi for Christmas 2002/3 - would not stay there again. THe staff themselves were great and very friendly ( pizza bar staff very slow) but the management was rude and surly. The location is fantastic and the rooms were nice, very clean. Programme of events for Christmas and New year was excellent, lots of variety and good ideas. We had a big problem with the food though - whilst a great selection was on offer, vegetables, pasta and bakery goods all seemed to be tainted with a kind of metallic taste, fish and meat was good. Management said they'd try to resolve it but nothing happened -they offered us a meal in the Chinese restaurant on site which was excellent - a franchise to the hotel! We weren't the only holidaymakers who had this problem either. It was a shame as it kind of spoiled what would have been a fantastic holiday. We wont be going there agin - this year we are returning to the Travleers Club Hotel, next door which we have visited before and found to be excellent. Fiona 1/7/04

What a lovely hotel. Our 7th. trip to Kenya, our 2nd. in Bamburi Beach Hotel. The staff are great. The food excerlent. I'd reccomend it to everybody. Roy and Georgina Frost 22/7/04

Jambo, Habari! I stayed in the hotel when I was 11, in Nov. 99 and it was (even though being renovated) one of the best and definitely most exhilerating experiences of my life. Not only is the weather and settings natural and stunning, but the hospitality of the staff was absolutely fantastic! I will always remember this experience and thank you all so much, I only wish that this was not in a third world area as the staff seemed to be being exploited and the poverty was abolical. That aside it was utterly perfect. Asante sana Jason Webb 18/11/04

I spent two weeks at the Baobab in March 2002 and one week in March 2001. It is my favourite hotel in Diani Beach. The jungle-like surrounding and the spectacular view from the cliffs is something special. The service is excellent. People are very friendly and after a while they know you all. I prefer the bungalow rooms. Food is really good. Night entertainment is not bad. I will come back. Travelix 15/07/02

Mielele Beach Hotel
(former Giriama Beach Hotel)

Giriama Beach Hotel on the shimmering sands of Bamburi beach is situated 10km north of Mombasa town. The hotel is elegantly designed, surrounded by lush tropical gardens of coconut trees, unusual fan shaped travellers palms, vibrant blooms of hibiscus, bougainvilleae and frangipani. There is a large pool and beside a cheerful restaurant where you have a spectacular view of the ocean. The rooms are with A/C and en-suite bathroom and either balcony or terrace.

This hotel has now changed names and is now called Mielele Beach Hotel. I believe they no longer serve alcohol. Emma 4/9/07

I went to this hotel with a group of 22 people. We are all about 16-20years of age. It was at the end of an expedition around Kenya....i have to say this has to be the best hotel i have EVER been to. Everyone there was friendly, the beach was fantastic and needless to say there was a great atmosphere about the place. When we went there was a no alcohol policy, but i do believe there is a great bar or three down the beach (Pirates bar/club, very good for music). The food was good, although we normally made our own. There is a supermarket within a 15minute walk down the road with everything you need (its just like a supermarket in the UK). We found that matatus were a great form of transport as they stopped outside the Hotel, although say a price before you hop into one- normally about 25shillings to go to the supermarket! Anyway, even though im only 18, i am most deffinately going back here in the near future with my family....oooo and while you are in Kenya, and your out at a bar/club, ask for nordic ice)

The no alcohol policy makes it the best place for family. I was there on holiday with my family from Nairobi. Its scure, the people are friendly, the massage and the food is the best. Live ever!! J.K.Omosh & Family 01/05/09

Giriama beach hotel in a very nice place to relax in and it's not far from mombasa town. What I like mostly about giriama is the fact that pool, bar and restaurant are all near the beach,I mean literary facing the beach. It's a good place to chill out. Khan 2/9/03

Hello Fellow Kenyan Lovers, I stayed @ Giriama hotel December 2003 & it was superb it's literally next to Tembo - Mombasa's top disco spot TEMBO & 5 steps away from Pirates beach. Its just nice. Can't wait to go back to Kenya again in December James 19/6/04

This is the best place for me cos i found my love here n had the best time of my life there good hospitality n the people are great. Shaiza 22/2/05

Sameer 27/2/05

Stayed here in a HUGE self catering apartment (two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, three toilets, large living room and kitchen)in the Summer of 2004. Had a fabulous time. Choice of two pools or just walk onto the beach and straight into the sea. Staff are all helpful and made a fuss of our little girl who loved everything about the place. Pirates bar just five minutes walk serves great food and is very welcoming and chilled. Plenty to see and do around and about - Bamburi Nature Trail, Mombasa Town, Crocodile World (can't remember the exact name of it!. Saving up to go back. Michelle Gilliver 11/6/05

HEY...Scotland calling!!. ....We stayed at giriama in august/september 2006...wow..we had an amazing time...fab hotel, great location, clean apartments, pool bar was a great idea...well there you go...if you are staying at mombasa you have to check it out!! Have stayed at and visited Giriama several times and it is the most wonderful hotel we have ever stayed in. Nothing bad to report about it, lovely surroundings, beach, food, staff. Would not want to stay anywhere else. Asante sana! Val Banks 10/12/06

I was a volunteer in Bamburi, Mombasa from September to December 06 and the other volunteers and I would often come to the hotel to use the pool and cool down! At the end of my placement my boyfriend came out to see me for a holiday and we stayed at Giriama for most of our time. We really enjoed ourselves and the staff were very friendly. I miss Mombasa and can't wait to go back some day! Lucy 25/4/07

Hotel shabby and run down, much in need of rennovation and repair. Stayed in Deluxe room but more like standard room, dirty, shabby, worn out furniture, rusty shower, electrics hanging out of wall. Worst of it all, the management here are racist and prejudice. Stayed only one night and moved on to a better hotel. Don't go, the pictures and the information about the Kenya Bay is certainly misleading!!! Sheba 5/12/06

I agree the Hotel is run down. However, just infront of it is the New Kahama Hotel that is fully refurbished and wonderful to stay in. All rooms have brand new split Air Conditioners, new beds, new satellite TV's, new everything. It is a delightful 32 room family run swahili-deco boutique hotel with all modern fittings. It is also located on Bamburi Beach and is it is the most amazing value for money with rooms from $45 or 35EURO. It has a huge pool and great Pub & Restaurant. Definetly worth a visit ! Peter Swan 29/3/07

I stayed at this hotel for one night on February 16th. It was fantastic and I will definitely be staying there again. Accommodation excellent! Food excellent. Staff - so very friendly and helpful. In the room you have TV and Internet, the live girls from ExtasyCams.com were absolutely gorgeous :) Nothing too much trouble. Thanks to everyone concerned. Adam Robert 20/10/08
 Mombasa Beach Hotel

Mombasa Beach Hotel

Perched on a coral cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Mombasa otel is only a few minutes away from Mombasa’s Old Town, with it’s narrow shaded streets, it’s harbour and the russet coloured bulk of Fort Jesus dominating all around it. Despite the hotel’s proximity to Mombasa itself, it exudes an air of tranquillity, with huge tropical gardens that provide welcome shade in the heat of the day. Here visitors can relax and unwind, undisturbed by the hustle and bustle of the nearby city. For the more active there is plenty of opportunity for water sports, with a spectacular tropical beach right on the doorstep. Sailing, goggling, wind surfing and safe ocean swimming can all be enjoyed, while the hotel itself has a superb all weather swimming pool and floodlit tennis court.
The Mombasa Beach Hotel has a hundred and fifty rooms and six suites, all of them air-conditioned and facing the ocean. The five dining areas range from maxim’s a la carte cellar to the informal beach bistro, which nestles on the beach itself. I stayed here in 1993 and loved it, especially the setting of the hotel. We stayed again in 1998 and it was dead. We were almost the only guests and the service was extremely slow. Has this improved again? Donna 11/10/02

My family & I stopped here in 1974 as part of a safari/beach hotel holiday we won through Smith's crisps. I was only 10 yrs old at the time, but well remember the spectacular hotel with its beaches of white sand & swimming in the pool in a shirt to combat sun burn. P.Burns 30/10/03

Have just returned from the Mombasa Beach Hotel,(September 2004) we had a lovely stay, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Rooms could do with some renovation, but on the whole they were clean and adequate. The food did leave a little to be desired, although it was varied. The gardens were spectacular, the atmosphere at the hotel was relaxed and friendly. There were activities daily and trips to various places(e.g Dolpin Dhow)if you wanted. The only problem was the beautiful beach, which if you dared to venture on to attracted hassle from the beach vendors. They were a blxxdy menace. However it is worth going on the glass bottom boat which is run through the hotel. Mr & Mrs Tustin 17/9/04

loved and enjoyed my stay. Peter Gedeon 1/9/06

I stayed at the Mombasa Beach on honeymoon in 1985. An unforgetable experience, my happy memories have lasted longer than the marriage. My dream is to return with my daughters,as soon as I am able. Angela Peel 16/9/06

This was my second stay at the Hotel. The accomdation was excellent.
The Staff was super. Everybody treated us with the upmost care. This was our second mission trip to Mombasa and my fourth. I LOVE EVERTHING ABOUT KENYA. The people made us felt like we were home. Everybody that has seen the flyer about your hotel was amaze. Continue doing GREAT SERVICE.Annie Mae Lee 5/10/06

Just got back from a holiday to this hotel with school. We all had a great time being in such a perfect location near all the big attractions and the sea. The views were wonderful and the services were excellent. Was well worth the long wait to go!!! Laura 31/10/06

I stayed there in 1983 I just wanted to know if the big shipwreck is still out on the reef . We had a great time , and was wondering if it is still a great place to go to.Please contact me with the information . Jambo Michael Schwenk 21/12/06

We have just returned from a week at the Mombasa Beach hotel and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. While it is certainly not a luxurous hotel, it served our needs for a quick week away charging the batteries in the sun. The bedrooms are pretty basic, but we only slept there, they were clean - most impressively were the gardens and the staff who couldn't do enough to help us. The only downside we found is that there are no key safes in the room and by the time we enquired it was too late to have a box behind reception as they had all gone! This was about 30 minutes after checking in, so make sure you do that as soon as you arrive! The other thing which would have been REALLY helpful would have been to have some information about the hotel facilities and amenities in the room, there was nothing at all to tell you about the restaurants, the layout of the hotel etc. Having said all of that, I would definitely go back. Check out the monkeys who come to visit the bins in the late afternoon or early morning on the beach - great fun! Mr & Mrs Hayles 17/2/07

I just come back from the Mombasa Beach Hotel last nite and would consider the hotel as excelent. All the staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The only fault i can pick is the food, the mix is not very clever, but it is traditional African food. I would recommend this as a beach holiday and its definatly one for the kids. Danielle 21/2/07

we have just returned from neptune beach hotel in north mombasa, we were there for two weeks, although the rooms were clean the constant hassle from the room cleaners for money became unbearable, we were unable to feel comfortable on the beach again for the constant hassle of the beach boys, some of them were very hands on,we found some of the staff to be extremley helpful and pleasant unfortunatly there was no happy medium as the rest of the staff were down right rude, there were only two that we felt we wanted to tip- cosmos and eugene!! the food was awful and a number of other guests were eating out or buying from a supermarket and eating in there rooms. the brouchure said that this was a newly refurbished hotel, this seemed strange as they were closing on friday 14 th april for 3 months to update. we got a late deal so the price of our holiday was nothing compared to the brouchure price but if we had have paid the full price we would have been extremely dissappointed and would have asked to be moved. we would never travel with cosmos travel or go to another neptune hotel, not worth the money!!!! Sonia Wellard + Kevin Duckett 14/4/06

My family and I have just returned from a two week stay at the Neptune Beach Hotel in Mombassa. We have had a brilliant and very memorable holiday ! The hotel has been newly refurnished and it is beautiful : the rooms were spotlely clean, the food generally good and the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Cosmos (the pool attendant ) was extremely friendly and a great asset to the hotel.Yes there was beach boys who did harass you at times : but they are only trying to make a living ! and the safari we booked through Thoma on the beach savwed us nearly 200 pounds and was exceptionally good value ! so do n ot be put of by the rumours ! although all the souvenirs sold on the beach are a lot more expensive ! We did go all inclusive and generally we found it was good value for money although I do feel that there could be a greater election of drinks and snacks offered during the day. On the whole a very good holiday and we will be back next year !!! Claire Wilkinson 16/8/07

The hotel has many lounge areas to sit and relax. There is only one resturant for all meals and one all inclusive bar, which doesn't do good cocktails! However, the staff are wonderful and very friendly, and the rooms nice and clean. Donna 27/9/05

I stayed at nyali beach hotel sept/oct 2006. i cannot fault it It was clean, food was amazing, staff could not do enough for you and was always on hand to help they always had a smile for you and i never saw anything to fault. Petuscha Garden Lodge

As you enter the picturesque guest house grounds, you can see you will be comfortable here. The rooms as you are shown them (the vacant ones, that is) are spotless. The pool is as clean as you can expect, given the numbers of staff. The nets adorning the four-poster bed were not full of holes, and the first night, for the cost, can have 4 to 5 stars. However, on the second night after we had returned from our wedding rehearsal and gone for a swim, we adjourned downstairs for dinner. After 45 minutes, we went back upstairs to get ready for an evening out with my family to discover the room had been entered and the back door opened. We must have disturbed the thief, because all they took was about £15 (local currency), two mobile phones, and a CD player, and took neither of our passports. Did the hotel phone the police? No, they spent more than an hour trying to blame a German tourist and deciding if they would call the police. They only did so when they realised that if they didn't, I was going to! The owner, a "lovely" lady by the name of Pauline, makes all sorts of promises with no intention of keeping them and doesn't think you will come back to collect. If you think a theft like this had never happened before, you're wrong--it happened to someone else the night before. The German she tried to blame lost £1,000 in various currencies, his driver's license, ID card, passport, and Gold Mastercard. We went back to collect a working mobile phone that had been promised--someone had blocked the one given to us, and were told " Hand on my heart. I promise nothing has happened since you left us & went on your honeymoon." As it transpired, there had been two more incidents both involving Pauline and other guests having had things stolen and Pauline threatening them with various nasty possibilities. I will leave the details to your Imagination! DO NOT STAY HERE! HOW DO I GIVE NEGATIVE STARS? Harvey Lilley 25/11/05

Petuscha Guest House - after restauration in 2004 now called "Petuscha Garden Lodge" - is a splendid place for familiar holidays. My husband and I really liked this place at the North Coast of Mombasa Kenya. You'll find a wonderful big swimming pool in between a beautiful garden ambiance. Guests are friendly received in a generous lounge where people can meet for a nice get-together or a good cocktail before having lunch or dinner at Cha Cha Restaurant. The comfortable rooms are cleaned every day while you stay at the fantastic beach or while you relax nearby the pool somewhere in the generous garden plant. Every morning in the best way trained stuff serves freshly prepared breakfast on the family terasse of the guesthouse. For a cosy evening Cha Cha Restaurant and Bar is situated nearby the guesthouse. In the nice open garden restaurant fantastic international and local food is cooked. Only a vew minutes to walk you reach the small village of Shanzu Beach and the proper beach at Indian Ocean. Friendly taxi drivers can bring you to sights and shopping places along the coast. We will come back to Petuscha Garden Lodge at Shanzu Beach again having wonderful holidays. Jochen & Herlinde 22/10/05

Vielen Dank für das tolle Apartment. Uns hat es super gefallen, alle waren sehr freundlich und aufmerksam zu uns. Frühstück war ausreichend und immer frisch zubereitet. Plaza Beach Hotel

We spent two weeks in this hotel in September. We were on holiday to celebrate my birthday and to introduce two friends to the delights of Kenya. The hotel was an idea choice for both. The hotel is quite small but this gives it a charm and you find everyone is very friendly. The rooms are large with safe ,tv and airconditioning provided free. There is also a mini bar where the drinks are the same price as the bars! The shower is VERY large. The food is similar to that in other hotels we have stayed in in the area. There is always a choice of meats ,fish or pasta. The soup is to be recommended..very tasty. The animmation team are very nice and are keen to get people to join in.Evening entertainment is again similar to other hotels in the area,a half hour of dancing, acrobats, singing etc. In the grounds there are two "bedoin" tents where you can relax in candlelight with a drink, or you can go down to the bar near the beach and listen to the ocean! We used the "beach boys" for trips ,as we have done before.Muny and Anton or Shone are very attentive for water trips. We recommend getting out and about and speaking to the locals it will really make your holiday more enjoyable. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel. e Lyall 12/10/06

Rana Cottages Mombasa

Rana Cottages

Some cottages on Bamburi Beach on the north shore of Mombasa, some twenty minutes out of town. A little cottage beside with lounge, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom and a verandah to sit on, watching the coconuts fall on the sand in the garden. The garden was a stretch of neatly swept sand, full of palm trees and flowered bushes, which reached down to the edge of the beach and was edged by a small fence to retain our privacy.

Rana Cottage is a very good choice. Only two stars, it has been rated but it deserves one more. Very relaxed atmosphere, a lot of privacy, monkeys around and facing the beach. What else do you need? It is self contained, no breakfast service but very spacious, clean,a porch to sit on and for the rest very comfortable.
The rate for one day is something like Ksh1500 and for one month you pay Ksh 35.000 depending on the cottage you choose. Bruins 31/10/05

Rana Cottages are one of the best cottages I have seen in mombassa. They hold not only a postcard photo view but is also quite private for the inhabitants with a fence around its premises. It was built by the City Mayor Mohammad Ali Rana who also was a practising physician and obe and mbe awardee.Rana Cottages are not only the best place to spend but room rents are also are reasonably priced. There are a lot of new features one discovers on each visit.Iwould recommend it to all tourists.Bon Voyage. Rocky 4/8/06

Rana cottages are a group of cottages which really represent the ambience and hospitality of Mombassa. It is one of those rare places where one is attracted towards it.I would reccommend it to all tourists visiting Mombassa. Qamar Raes 21/8/06

Rana cottages are the best cottages I have ever visited. It is really reasonably charged and is ideally located.A definite visit for all tourists visiting mombassa. Farrukh 6/9/06

I have great memories of growing up with the boys at Rana Cottage. Baber, Sabir, Aunt Amina - they were family. Shame we lost touch, but it's been almost 15 years. I suppose for those visiting Kenya, I can tell you that Rana Cottages was a great place with about six or seven houses and beautiful views and palm trees. The gardener has a stash of coconuts for when you wish to quench your thirst. Omar Sharif 15/12/06

rana cottages was where i stayed when i visited mombassa.it  is a very good group of cottages.i really loved it.does anyone have its owners contact no so that i can book it again ???? Robert 19/4/07

We stayed at the Reef in January 2001, it was probably the best holiday we have had. The staff were excellent, food great and the rooms spacious and comfortable. The grounds were so spacious that we had a truly relaxing holiday. We are disappointed that the hotel is not featured in any package holiday brochures for January 2003 as we are going to return to Kenya this year. Dave Roberts 3/10/02

I stayed at reef hotel in july 2004 and i loved it. I had a standard room because the supirious had no good ocean view. The supirior room had a fridge which is very handy because i hade medicine that needed to be kept in the fridge,i wish that next time i come there i will be allowed to have a great view and the fridge. The beach boys "hallo my friend" as we called them were very annoying and didnt take no for an answer, i wanted to be at the beach but i could not because i hade to duck them all the time.i really hope that next time it will be better, because reef hotel is great ,very clean ,good food and very lovely workers. Steff 20/10/04

Wow! This was such an enjoyable holiday!! The ambience which was set out like an old lamu town! The food was superb and so was the service! The rooms had a warm and cosy feel to
it and was cleaned by very friendly staff! For the price their asking for it's certainly worth it! My whole family enjoyed the stay and may i say the glass bottomed boat was fantastic! Need i go on...... Wonderful and enjoyable stay but torn between Nyali and Serena! help me choose!!!!! Akhalif 28/3/04

My husband and i where married on Feb 10th at Serena Beach Hotel, fantastic! Groungs gorgeous, food and hospitality amazing. To top it off we did a three day safari at the Masai Mara staying in the Mara Serena Lodge, best expereience of our lives. No other holiday will ever come close. Debbie and Sean Smith 18/4/04

Stayed at the Serena as part of Honeymoon in 2003, it is by far the best hotel on the East African Coast, with many guests returning time after time. The staff are helpful and attentive without being crowding, the food is exceptional, particularly the hearty breakfasts. The facilities and architecture of the hotel with its Morish arches, airy terraces set it apart from the typical drab hotel styles found elsewhere. The beach here is fine soft sand, no avoiding the pushy beach touts, but perhaps less here than at places closer to Mombassa. Check out the upstairs bar where you can spread out on the cushions under the stairs....bliss.Tony Savage 4/2/05

Severin Sea Lodge Mombasa

Severin Sea Lodge

Welcome to the Severin Sea Lodge, a dream hotel where the white sandy beach is lapped by Indian Ocean, and the cool sea breezes and the equator sun give pleasant warm temperatures all year round. The hotel has a friendly and comfortable atmosphere, and is set amongst lush tropical gardens giving you peace and tranquility and making your holiday an exceptional experience.

Went here for our honeymoon in September 2002. Although we were on safari for 4 days our stay was absolutely fantastic. Could not fault the food at all, service was great at all the restaurants. Would go back in a minute. Jambo!!! Hilary Byers 8/7/03

went to severin in dec 2002 for our honeymoon, staff were supurb food was great the best holiday we have ever been on especially charity she was great a credit to the hotel thanks for a great honeymoon. Spencer 9/7/04

Went to severin September 2005 for our silver wedding annivesary, we were not let down, first class all the way ,staff were fantastic food ,in the 5 resturants was amazing it was plentiful very well presented and tasty, all the hotel and rooms were cleaned daily, the public toilets around the hotel were checked hourly ,gardens and pools immaculate ,beach and walks stunning, we will find it hard to better this holiday and would rate it 10/10 ,however would not recommend for familys ,as it is a relaxing location ,i would say it was best suited for ages 35 years and beyond. Steve Duffin 5/1/06

Have just returned from the Severin Sea Lodge and must say this is a fantastic hotel. It is set in a tropical location with swaying palm trees. The staff are just great, the food is fabulous and all cooked fresh with plenty to choose from, (the pizzas are to die for), the rooms are spacious and cleaned everyday, it has 2 swimming pools, entertainment everynight, and the monkeys are really naughty, but very funny. I would rate this hotel 10/10, I will def. be going back. Would not recommend for families, but for couples and honeymooners or even makes a great wedding location. Debbie 16/6/06

That was the worst hotel that I have personally ever seen in my life! D Perera 16/6/02

lovely hotel - great staff - rude Operations Manager, demeaning and humilitating to the brilliant hotel staff - needs course in 'people skills' or the sack! Alanna Stead 7/8/02

We were as a party of 22 i was getting married. we have just returned, i must say it was the best holiday ever.excelent, outstanding i cannot describe the words of 21 guests. we all loved it, and want to return. i must say hello to pantello who runs the iman dhow .benson thanks for making sure our meals were more than excelent. charity at the pool bar thanks for all your efforts in making sure our throats didnt run dry.if anyone from severin reads this jambo, thank you all for a wedding and holiday we will all remember forever thank you. Tony Christmas+21 guests 6/3/03

I recently had a weeks stay at the severin sea lodge, the hotel is quite good, the food is very good, unfortunately the service was very poor we were all inclusive but trying to get a drink was a real task! the staff were not very friendly and I certainly wouldn't recommend it. Marilyn Holmes 1/4/03
Sun N' Sand Mombasa

Club Sun N' Sand

For years Club Sun N Sand has enjoyed an unrivalled reputation as on of the Kenya Coast most luxurious all-inclusive hotel with most rooms having sea view of the famous Indian Ocean. The hotel's various facilities make your stay relaxing whether on business or leisure.

The most amazing place i have ever stayed. The people are so naturally friendly and helpful and the hotel is beautiful. There is so much to do there you can never get bored. I really enjoyed staying there in January and cant wait to go back in Febuary next year. ruby fuller 4/6/05

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Sun and Sand. We could not fault it at all really. The staff treat all guests like royalty - even when the guests don't deserve it! The facilities are brilliant and we found plenty to do, despite the location being a bit off the beaten track. Don't be put off the beach by the 'beach boys', they are only trying to earn a crust. Take them up on the opportunity to visit the local villages and you will understand. The poverty is overwhelming. Ask for Marlon on the beach, he took us around the village and was very informative without being pushy. If you can take any children's clothes, exercise books, pencils and rubbers so that the children have something to write on in school, that would be really appreciated. As would any trainers, sandals, watches, mobile phones, t-shirts etc. etc. These people have nothing, and deserve a lot more. The average salary in Kenya is around $300 to $400 per year! - so it doesn't take much imagination to realise that coming from a richer country we can contribute a lot by giving very little. Despite the poverty the Kenyans are really open hearted people and always had huge smiles on their faces. C Limbert 6/6/05

My partner and i visited sun n' sands in november of 2004 and are going back in a couple of weeks, i would recomend this beautiful location to everyone. the staff have permanent smiles on their faces and make you feel so " at home!" the food is wonderful and the rooms are really nice too! WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! laura and simon 23/10/05

We booked for Hotel Bamburi Beach because of the good references there, but... later on it was overbooked and so we went (november 2005)to Hotel SUN N SAND. And that was a great surprise!! The hotel was looking better (bigger and more place everywere, very nice garden, good food, nice people). What was not 100%?? The animation team was good but not always present; it's a 4 stars hotel, not a five star as they say), Outside the hotel is a small village with very friendly people. If you ask (front of the hotel) for Ronald or Joseph from Mombasa North Tours you become a very good safari for a nice price. (better than the beach boys) Have a good holiday there!!! We stayed at this resort in the first few weeks of January 06. Absolutely loved it. Make use of the Kayaks and go out into the Indian Ocean, Beach Boys will take no for an answer so don't let them put you off from going to the beach. Room was kept lovely and clean and the food was fantastic, lots of choice with something to cater for everyone. Would recommend this hotel. Definately take lots of books, pencils and Tshirts etc to barter with for the carvings on the beach. Emily 23/1/06

A superb hotel in and idyllic location. Rooms excellent, food not bad, grounds spacious, free sunbeds with mattress and towel, entertainment average. Would go again tomorrow. Please do not worry about the beach boys or the locals out the front of the hotel. Whilst they can appear to be a pain, they are only trying to make a living and a trip too the reef or the local village are not to be missed. (Charlie and Junior are very good guides on the beach). Have a great holiday, Alan Hall 13/2/06

Our first visit christmas 2005 absoloutley fantastic, lovely food ,lovely staff nothing is too much trouble treated like royalty, beach boys great, look out for soloman, david and sammy, if you want to go on safari book it with eric and joseph on the beach they work for the same company as your tour operators will book with and they are half the price, also ask soloman to take you to his villiage, if you could spare anything, like shampoo, tooth paste ,old clothes they have nothing, but they always smile, we got invited to xmas dinner ith the family all thay earn is from the beach. another thing you must do is a beach safari brill, u see giant starfish, sea cumbers things i have only ever seen on tv and books . we have booked to go back christmas this year !!!!!!!!!! cant wait roll on december. jackie maggs 19/4/06

going in nov 06 for the 4th time to kenya 3rd time to stay at sun n sand went for honeymoon in 1998 fantastic returned in 2000 for a wedding with a couple we met when on honeymmon at this hotel. staff cant do enough to make your holiday enjoyable, best holiday i've ever had. people are friendly, setting is beautiful, cant wait to get back there. Meryl 10/7/06

Been going to Sun n Sand now for 21 years, always treated with the greatest respect by all levels of staff , Daniel and Agnes [front desk ] will help with any problem ,The barstaff know most drinks , the waiting staff excellent, food is very good , Animation team great fun , join in the games and have fun , thats the idea of an AI holiday, Beach boys will take no for an answer but do it politely, will never fault this hotel, Our party of 4 go in November & January and go deep sea fishing with Captain Harry from Mtwapa and bring catch back to Kikumbala village, it is always welcome, See you on November 23rd , The bad boys are coming back again . Barry & Lesley Hall 13/9/06

been to this hotel for last 11 years would not bother going anywhere else, always made welcome, rooms clean and well stocked, front desk staff very good espcially Daniel and Agnes, best safari ever done was up to Rift Valley with beach boys who do have insurance , do not be put off by rumours, Hotel charges twice as much for same trip, But this hotel is the best in Kenya, some will disagree, some beach boys can be a pain, but a polite No is all you need, they will not be offended, We are going again this year and will be treated well, join Animation team for fun and games, then join Albert at the Lamu bar for a Kenya Gold or 3, see you soon. Dave & Jean Thackray 13/9/06

Never let anyone say this is not a good hotel I have been going for 22 years now and even have trees planted in special area with name plate , this was done free of charge by the hotel and is a fantastic gesture, always join in the fun, have safari with beach boys, never had problem yet, deep sea fishing available with Captain Harry, go reef walking with beach boys learn a lot about their culture, do not just sit on sun bed and moan there is nothing to do , food is excellent, go to snack bar and see Gambo he looks after your every need,or Albert in Lamu bar for drinks you never heard of, Animation team can always find something to amuse you, Go see for yourselves. Barry Hall 14/9/06

We have just come back from this hotel and it was one of the best holydays that ever have ever had the hotel and staff were great could not do enough for us keyna is a great country Philip & Sandra Stones 18/9/06

Have been to this hotel 27 times in the last 20 years and have never had cause to complain, reception staff are excellent Speak to Daniel or Agnes if something needs doing they will get it done , Susan at Guest services will look after any guests problems no matter how trivial , Go fishing with Captain Harry for a brilliant day out, then relax at night with music from DJ Christian any music you want he has it, Going back in Nov 2007 to see all my friendly beachboy mates, if you do not want hassle just a polite no thank you and they will leave you alone, they are trying to earn a living, Hotel is an excellent choice although it is off the beaten track, but you will return, Barry Hall 19/8/07

We have just returned from a week stay at the Sun n sand , after reading some of the reviews before going I was rather aprehensive as some of the reviews were less than flattering. As a travel agent myself and knowing that these reviews are sometimes not always accurate I went with an open mind not expecting too much. We were pleasantly suprised when we got there , it is shown as 4 * maybe it wouldnt be in the UK but in Kenya its luxury , very impresive lobby and surrounding areas and restaraunts wonderfull views over the pools and beach the gardens are very well maintained and the rooms were fine . I think the staff make the hotel what it is ,nothing is too much trouble they are always smiling and they work so hard. Food was good and varied and drinks always cold and plentiful if you want lay in the bath and notice the tiles arn't quite straight and the groutings a bit shabby then ALL I can say is get a life.enjoy the hotel and the staff and join in and you wont go far wrong WE WOULD GO BACK IN A BLINK OF AN EYE WELL DONE SUN N SAND. I visited the Sun and Sand in May for the 2nd time - this time for 2 weeks - I have to say that this hotel has improved and the rooms are nice and spacious and food good - I can't fault this hotel for the prices it charges - its a fun kind of place perhaps not really for the romantically inclined. It is a little far away from the town of Mtwapa. The only critics I would say is that the hotel actively discourages guests from visiting the village of Kikambala and the bars and restaurants in the village. They also discourage mixing with the 'beach boys' saying they are dangerous and untrustworthy. I have been to Kenya many times and have never encountered any kind of trouble on the beach. Mary karisa Duce 2/8/01

I stayed at the Sun n Sand hotel in August this year. It is the 5th time that I have stayed in an all inclusive hotel and this hotel has to be the best that I ever stayed at. The staff were all so helpful especially the bar staff and Dennis Kiema who was the main man. The Sun n Sand is a top star hotel. Friends are like stars, you cant always see them but you know that they are always there. I look forward to returning next year. Tony Ladurner 9/9/01

Un endroit de rêve,
Un management de qualité
Des restaurant aux milles saveurs
Un personnel hyper sympatique

Went to sunsand in kikabala i would like to say me and my family had one of the best holidays ever i would like to point out that the staff are the best in mombassa i truly say this hotel is the best in kenya. Roy Nathan 8/6/02

I stayed at the Sun n' Sand in October 2001 when my daughter got married there. It is a very beautiful place and the hotel was brilliant. Great service and food and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The people are brilliant and i would love to go back some day. The wedding was lovely and we will never forget the many friends we made while we were there. Christine Harrison 17/9/02

Definitely not a four star hotel! Two would be nearer the mark! Don't waste your money. Try White Sands instead. Karen Whiteley 24/9/02

Went to Sun 'n Sands about a dozen times during my teens as a "poor white" with holiday money to burn. Had a great time every time, and looking forward to visiting again. It was the location of my first true falling in love.. Frank 10/11/02

We stayed here in Jan. 04. They are overrated in stars. Some nights there were only 45 guests, guess that shows!Staff was friendly, management (Indian) and very arrogant. The a-la-carte restaurants were used by nobody, and they smelled. Entertainment was very clumsy and poor. Drinks bad, food boring. Ine Bok 28/4/04

You try running a hotel when tourism is at rock bottom..... No one will travel because they are scared of terrorism attacks therefore the hotels are doing badly. Staff are badly paid as it is and currently have to work shifts so the minimum staff are covering. This is not just the case for sun and sand its the case all around even in european countries. I went in last year and had a fantastic time. and the manager lovely women helped us when a family member was poorly and helped with local knowledge. Food was delicious and the Entertainment team do very well considering they have to work long hours and trying to get ignorant people involved with the activities. B. 7/6/04

As single traveller I have just got back from Sun'n'Sand I found it to be a great place to stay. Room was great as was the food. Not too many guests but it is their winter season. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. Four pools - one freshwater.
One night main dining room was decorated for conference/dinner and guests were moved to another dining area which the hotel decorated I am sure at great expense to the same standard. A very nice touch.
Management exceptionally good in assisting me with a personal problem where I had to stay a further two nights for which, when I came to pay the bill, there was no charge. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel if you are going to Kenya. Personal Thank You to Kenn Munyeki (Front Office Manager). Dave 22/7/04

We just spent a long weekend at Sun & Sand and were appalled by the service and overall quality. For starters, the airport transfer (included in the package we bought) didn't show up, and the hotel left us waiting on the floor of Mombasa airport for nearly an hour-and-a-half before telling us to just take a taxi...which meant missing the afternoon at the beach. All guests are ordered to wear a garish pink plastic bracelets on their wrist for the duration of the stay in order to obtain the all-inclusive benefits like food and drink, which made everyone look like cows or hospital interns. The all-inclusive food buffets were sub-standard (similar to high school cafeteria fare) - the meat was always tough and dry, the quality of ingredients seemed to be the cheapest available, and the 'free bars' used the worst kind of no-name alcohol in the cocktails. Even the food at the "a la carte' outlets was terrible. The staff constantly interrupted our moments of relaxation with superficial small talk and attempts to convince us to stop whatever we're doing and participate in 'group events'. The hotel discourages visits to Mombasa town (why see any of the real Kenya?) by offering shuttles just twice a week (and charging $35 for a return trip at any other time). The nightly 'entertainment' is loud and tacky and does not allow sleep before midnight. In short, if you enjoy a tasteless place where you're unable to relax and you're fed like cows on the hour, spend a few weeks here! The only favorable aspect was the setting: The 3 swimming pools are gorgeous and the landscape is nice. Daniel 25/10/04

Absolutely fabulous hotel - our fourth stay. Service and food are exemplary leaving you wanting for nothing. Paradise 1st hand, what an experience. Recently refurbished the hotel has just been awarded five star status which they are thoroughly deserving of. Its true u need only take your sun tan lotion the rest is provided. Returning next Feb and just cant wait. For sunny months Oct is good Nov Dec can be showery. Jan thru April is beautiful with high temps and cooling breezes. Anyone that faults this hotel has to be wazzimoo (swahili for crazy, but not sure of spelling) Christine 20/2/05

been twice to sun n sand fantastic times in 98 and 2000. so before re .fit. made some good friends in benard a pool attendant . jacob the scuba diving instructor and george . who knows what he does but v, helpfull. food on the whole was good better in 2000. entertainment may not be las vegas but get in to the spirit and get on with it , your in kenya . don't be afraid of beach boys selling things . befriend one buy some stuff of him and the rest will pretty much leave you alone ,also go on a beach walk with them so much to see, starfish, cucumbers , octopus, coral and more for about 200 ksh. RECOMENDED. Martin 22/2/05

My husband and I stayed at the Sun N Sand in February 2005 to celebrate my 50th birthday. The hotel was great and the staff so very helpful, cheerful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. We loved every minute and cant wait to go back next February. Jan Warburton 7/4/05

we stayed at sun n sand for 2 weeks in september 2004 for our silver wedding anniversary. staff could not do enough for us free room upgrade.although there were not many guests the entertainment and staff could not do enough for us. the safari grill fronted by safari was fantastic, celebrated our special day here in the evening fantastic food, staff and were treated to an authentic african song by staff presenting us with a cake. absolutely fantastic. would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to spend that special time in paradise. sandra and glyn smith 28/5/05

We visited the Hotel last year (sep 2004) for 3 weeks and we have to say 'thumbs up' to all the hotel management.Everybody was so friendly, the food was very good and the entertainment....Wooow! We danced the nights away almost every night. We don't really have to say much, but we have certainly told lots of our friends about the Hotel.Looking forward to visiting again soon....Keep up the good effort. Greetings to you all from Belgium. We returned just yesterday from a fantastic 14 night stay at travellers club. It was my first time in Africa and was just amazed. A beautiful hotel in a fab location. The staff were all terrific. Ferdinand and Danson (bar staff)to name just two of so many were fab and made us feel really at home. Nothing was too much trouble, even helped us learn some swahili. The memories they have given us will stay forever, certainly till we go again!! Which we definately will. Sharlene/Tony 6/7/04

Visited Travellers Club in 2001 .Had such a brilliant time wne again in 2003.The staff are econd to none.Nice to be welcomed like old friends . Nothing too much trouble. Food excellent .Entertainment staff unforgetable.Made some good friends there. Hope to return next year (2005) Jane & Dave 25/8/04

I had the luxury of enjoying my honeymoon at the Travellers in April 2004, I at times feel I should do it all over again! My wife Irene, our twin tots and I had a time of our lives. The food was great, the staff and their leader Fred Kiuru were kind, the beach clean and exciting, mostly for the children. FRANCIS NGAMBI 6/10/04

Jambo to all our rafikis, Travellers Beach is one of the best hotels at the Kenya coast. Our first visit in Kenya was in the year 1968. We come and come and come. Since the year 1992 we stay in TBH. Our next visit will be in december 2004. The rooms spacious, comfortable and clean. The garden well-kept, the pools varied and maintained. Simple a nice surrounding area. The food great. A super management. Always friendly staffs. A wonderful holiday destination. Come here and have a look. Thank you Mr.Freddie Kiuru, Mr.David Apeli, Mr.Samuel Ziro, your three are great. Thank you family Dhanjal, you are the greatest. We are looking forward to see you again. God bless you all. Kwaheri.

The best hotel for a really relaxing hoilday.Staff are wonderful and caring. Freddie is to be congratulated on his staff. Have visited 3 times so far and plan to be back in 2007. Cant wait to get to my second home Jane 9/10/06

I was my 8th time in Kenya as I was for 4 weeks in the Travellers Beach Club in September 2006 and enjoyed this holydays. Rooms, garden, pools are all very fine and always clean. The food is absolute ok and the service very fine. The whole staff is friendly and supports you in any way. The evening entertainment performed by the Clubs own crew is really a fine idea and simply perfect fun. Reinhard Haidinger 17/10/06

We stayed at the Travellers club in December for two weeks. it was the third time we had stayed at this hotel. The food was disgusting and the same thing all of the time but names differently. the rooms were boring and in need of renovation the tv was limited to sky news and a few local programmes. the reception on same was usleless. The staff were nice but the entertainment was crap when you are all inclusive they put on the worst possible so you do not stay to drink the drink. alan millar 11/2/07

Just returned from a week at Travellers Beach, it was our first time in Kenya and we had a fantastic time. The Hotel was comfortable and clean and the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The food was lovely, there was not a lot of variety but it was good quality in the restaurant. The snack bar was a bit disappointing however. The pool was great, very clean and we stayed at the quieter end which was very relaxing. The evening entertainment could have been better but at least there was something different on each night. The beach was beautiful but you do get hassle from the Beach Boys. We went for a back and neck massage in the Hotel which was very enjoyable. Cash machine just along the road and very close to Haller Park which is worth a visit. Overall we had a brilliant time and will definitely be visiting Kenya and Travellers Beach again. Julie 15/3/07

What a Lovely Hotel, Great service Great place to have a nice peace of mind vacation.I loved the Buffet they is wonderfull food was great experiance of my life time .Unforgorttable memories of the hotel and safari. thanks guys keep it up. Ali Omar 27/3/07

A very enjoyable experience! Philipp Parry 10/5/07

July/Aug 2007/ Stayed in Kenya 5 glorious weeks, fab hotel, staff friendly and always smiling. Guests also friendly and a real family feeling, I travelled alone but made so many friends in and around the hotel. Food good, Entertainment light, music needs updating, Pool clean, rooms basic but very clean, ALL the staff from the gardeners to the Management ... fantastic! Will be going back for 3 months in December 07. I cannot wait much longer, going to marry my Kenyan man who works at the hotel. Debbie Pope 21/9/07

Just returned after 2 weeks at Travellers. Our second visit to this hotel. Both times it has been excellent.2004 and sept 2008, the staff, meals and cleansliness of the hotel and bedrooms was excellent.Look forward to returning in the near future. Meryl 12/09/08

one of the best hotel in kenya, we have been 3 times there, and we will come again. Sonya 16/09/08

This beautiful hotel welcomes you with a pleasant feeling right as you enter the front doorstep...it welcomes you with the soft scented air of the beach, magnificent fountains, huge crystal chandeliers and a bright color swimming pool that elongates all the way to the end of the hotel. it has a breathtaking amount of gorgeous, extra large, fully equipped rooms that give a sight of either the pool and or the ocean. room service is very nice, very fast, and very kind! they have many meals, buffets, and professional dinners all going on at the same time. the food is lovable and you are certain to ask for more after the first bite! the area is surrounded by sweet flowers and tall palm trees which are worth a look or two. the swimming area is also very attractive... it would make ANYONE wish to take a dip in it. it is probably the longest pool in the whole of Mombasa in my opinion. in the center of the back side of the hotel's pool, there is a bar area with the best drinks - for adults and or KIDS, so anyone can stay in the pool and still enjoy fresh tastes of fresh juices or soda pops! if you walk a few steps out of the pool and a few steps down the stairs - located about 20 meters away from the pool's end - you hit the soft, warm bed of white sand. now, you have reached the beach! as soon as you take a long walk of about 100 or so meters more, then you hit the perfect blue sheet of comfortable temperature water. beautiful sea shells wash out on the sea shore for you to look at, hear and keep! you can stay around this beach as long as you want and especially at dusk, with the breeze from the east whooshed in your ears and hair as you watch the most memorable, romantic sunset. personally i would prefer to stay a little longer after the sunset if i was with fa Ann 5/2/09mily or friend, to watch the perfect moonlight and hear beautiful music in the background accompanied with clit clats of crabs. after enjoying your time at the pool and beach, you can also try out the colorful, addicting club area right around the corner of the beach. you can stay in to enjoy any kind of music - traditional, modern, rock, or any other live performances - and play, dance, drink and mainly enjoy your time with whoever you are with. pizza anyone? right next to the front doors of the travelers beach hotel, there is a pizza place and a wonderful chef who owns it. the pizza is either delivered to your room OR you can have a take-away OR you could just stay in and enjoy the pizza inside this parlor. the scent of the sauce is mouthwatering and you keep wanting more every time you bite a piece. this is the best hotel i have been to yet in my life! i want to go back...asap!! Ann 5/2/09

Have pre booked and dived with Peponi Divers. Perfect diving with good dive sites. Great team with excellent staff. Thanks allot to Charo, my dive guide. Peter 8/4/09.

We have just returned from a two week holiday staying at the Travellers Club, Mombassa. I would like to say that we had a wonderful time and are looking at coming back next year in February 2002 and bringing our family along with us. We would like to be mailed or e-mailed price tariffs for the next year and hopefully we will book it direct with yourselves and not through a local travel agent. once again our comments are brilliant holiday !!! Just spent two weeks at Travellers Club. Great place and good value for money. We have made a friend in Paul the rep. Having said that all the staff at Travellers are so friendly and helpful (and always smiling!). We will definitely re visit this Hotel next year, maybe before! Thanks to all.John and Sally (Room 704) 17.4.01

Have just come back from Travellers Beach - its a good quality hotel, friendly helpful staff, good standard rooms. The staff could not do enough for us on our wedding day - arranged locally and not through a travel agent. I cannot fault the food or the hotel. The beach is wonderful - lots to do - and truly wonderful time. The manager Freddie Kew is a gem of a man. Mary Karisa Duce 2/8/01

Having spend a wonderful two weeks at the Travellers Club in February and another 2 weeks in June, I would love to come back again next February for 2 weeks and would like to know the cost of 13 nights accommodation on an all inclusive basis...Diane Colling 27/10/01

This year will be our 8th time to the hotel,so actions speak more than words. We now have so many friends in the hotel and the nearby village school, that my wife and I look upon it as home from home. B Bozman 5/7/02

I have been informed by the Manager at the Travellers that the "club" side of the hotel will be up and running by the 15th August, 2002. As we have sent numerous e-mails back and forth and I am getting married over there I tend to believe him! This hotel is excellent, its my 3rd visit and I would not go anywere else. If you need any info please e-mail me. ANNE 12/8/02

The best hotel in Kenya. Been there 5 times. The staff are excellent, I'm sure I'll be back there in February, Love to all the staff.
Sue Allen 19/9/02

Am just about to go back to this excellent hotel for the 6th time!!! Staff make you feel completely at home. Well managed-excellent food-best ever considering all-inclusive. Quality is outstanding. Consider this hotel my 2nd home and cannot wait to go back on 3/2/03. Sue Allen 7/1/03

Travellers Beach deserves a higher 'tembo'rating than it currently has. We have stayed there at least once every year since 1992 and have made many, many very good friends in the staff and other regulars. Travellers is officially known by both us and the staff as our second home, which we wouldn't swap for the world. The staff are always happy and eager to help in any way they can - this is not only due to the natural friendliness of the Kenyans, but most definitley down to the great leadership of the General Manager, Mr. Freddie Kiuru, who is regularly seen around the hotel ensuring the comfort of his guests. Ian & Carol Finch 7/1/03

We had a wonderfull holida at your hotel in June 2000, the service was great, the peolpe wonderfull and the hotel was beyond our wildest dreams.
thank you to all thestaff for making it a holiday to remember and we hope to see you all soon. Patricia Shaw 9/1/03

Went to the travellers club hotel on the 28 may 2003 for two weeks ,i had a fantastic time here the staff are second to none ,so people come to kenya have a great and safe time. Stuart Crabb 14/6/03

Had a great holiday 2 years ago and want to come back. David Parkins 25/11/03

Jambo, war vom 14.01. bis 04.02.2004 in Kenya. Das war nun schon mein 18. Urlaub in meiner 2. Heimat. Der Traveller Club ist wunderschön, das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis stimmt. Kann das Hotel nur empfehlen, das Management ist Super. Sigrid 14/2/04

Voyager Beach Resort

The Voyager Beach Resort is much more than a holiday beach hotel. With its panoramic bars and restaurants, sparkling pools, action-packed entertainment programmes, and every sort under the tropical sun, Voyager is charting a new course for family beach holidays into the 21st century. The 230 modern cabins offer every conceivable comfort for the discerning traveller - as well as some of the finest ocean views in the world. At the water sport centre, you will find everything from sailing, snorkelling and water skiing to glass bottom-boat rides among enchanting coral gardens. And then there is scuba diving and deep sea fishing aboard modern cruisers.

Me and My Husband came here for our Honeymoon in March 2003 and really enjoyed it, what can I say - lovely staff, perfectly relaxing after and weeks safari, nice food - the lobster in smugglers cove is a must. Only downside for us were the beach sellers, to avoid them we had to sprint like mad into the water to avoid them and the air conditioning in the room was that noisy that I dreamt of helicopters landing on the roof! Apart from this we had a really nice time. Oh I also had a perfrect haircut and manicure in the beauty salon - the girls were so friendly. :-) Louise Fletcher 11/1/05

Just got back from a fantastic three weeks at the Voyager. Everything was just right and the staff were out of this world. The room was great with fantastic views of the Indian Oceon. If you are going try and get cabin 367 or 368 and you will not be sorry, that is if you want a sea view. The whole resort is run like a ship and the ship of course is called the voyager. As it is run like a ship all the staff are crew members and you are passengers. They have a captains table if you are lucky enough to be invited, we were invited and it was wonderful with silver service all night. Just remember that gentlemen must go to dinner in trousers. Some tried to enter the restaurant in shorts but were stopped. The three pools are great although we spent all our time at the beach pool as it overlooks the oceon and was only 15 seconds from our room. Get to know the pools crew like James or Maurice and you will not have a problem getting a sunbed waiting for you every morning with clean towells on. (200/- tip). The restaurant crew were just so good it is hard to put into words. One of the crew I will mention, his name is MESHACK and he was the most helpful, polite, well mannered person you could wish to meet and with a great sence of humour as well he just made our holiday complete. Excellent hotel, ideally recommended for families with young children. A nautical themed hotel which 'docks' somewhere different every day for an fun filled day of entertainment. Also suitable for couples as there is a pool for adults only overlooking the beach. Food is excellent with much variety and staff are very friendly and helpful. Ideal location on the seafront with shops and supermarkets nearby. T.James 23/3/05

Just returned from great holiday in Kenya.4 night Safari (fantastic!)and 10 nights at the Voyager. What a great hotel.Cannot say a bad word about it.The staff treat you like royalty and are so friendly.Mary and Jacqueline in the restaurant were exceptionally caring and polite. We had dinner at the Captains table with Margaret (senior member of staff) and her husband and six other 'passengers'.The entertainment day and night is amazing. The Animation team put so much hard work into it and their performance of 'The Lion King' was very professional. The pool guys are great and have your sunbeds and towels ready for you every morning. The Watersports centre staff are great and very knowledgeable about the coral and sea-life,my husband enjoyed 2 scuba dives while we were there. When you leave you feel like you are leaving home cos they make you feel so special.Try it ..you won't be disappointed. We will be back!! Carol Wealands 5/12/05

I stayed at the Voyager in November 05 and it was probably the best holiday I have ever had. My first week was spent on safari with 2 wonderful couples, June and Keith who stayed at the Neptune in Diani and Ali and Sue who also stayed at the Voyager. The staff were just wonderful, especially the girls that worked in the beauty salon, the facilites were first class and the food was delicious! I felt like I had landed in a "Bounty advert". My first day on the beach was a little intimidating with all the traders wanting attention but I made friends with one of the local guys that worked on the beach and I have to say he made my holiday that little bit extra special so much so I am returning in May 06!
The day I left I felt like I was leaving my new family, all the staff made me feel very special. A perfect week of relaxation. Elaine Wayman 20/2/06

Voyager Beach offers delicious food, very good entertainment. The hotel yard is spacious, well maintained, once a week there is a market to buy your souvenirs. Rooms are modest: no tub, no television and the furniture needs to be renovated. No decent wardrobe to hang your clothes. The availability of drinks is average. Service is at a good level, friendly and well -
trained. Bruins 14/3/06

I am only 13 years old but i can say that this was the best holiday i have ever been on....they have a different selection of food to eat every day and great performences to show. the staff are so helpfull and friendly (kennedy-receptionest margret-magagment duncan,rose,bahati,izzy-animation team chris-head of animation team and so many more!) and i even cried when i left. every morning @ the pool they have the towles on the sun beds ready for you and the waiter (forgot the name :(-sorry) is so helpfull and will get you drinks whenever you want it. and lastly there are amazing activities that you can take part it like:- safaris, animal zoo's, namongo villege and much much more....if you choose anywere in africa to go, it should be the voyager beach resort, you will come back with so many storys to tell and a big smile on your face, you will not regret it. We've just got back from 2 weeks at the Voyager, what a fantastic 2 weeks they were!! We got married at the hotel and the staff were brilliant, especially Margaret and Felicia, they couldn't do enough for us. We also done a 2 day safari with the beach boys and had a close encounter with a leopard which added to the fun! What a fantastic place to get married and spend our honeymoon. We will defo recommend the Voyager to anyone wanting to visit Kenya. Simon and Anita Dadson 20/2/07

Wet spent two fabulous weeks at the Voyager Beach Resort in February, a return visit for us, and we can certainly recommend it. The hotel and grounds are beautifully laid out and kept in pristine condition and the facilities are first class. The choice and quality of the food in the three restaurants is excellent. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, they went out of their way to make our holiday one to remember. Superb!! We can't wait to go back next year! Bob & Carol Neal 4/05/01

This was our first visit to kenya staying at voyager beach.we can't wait to return again very soon .the staff are the friendliest people you could meet. christine pemberton 27/09/01

We have just returned from a two week safari, one week staying at the Voyager Beach. This attractive hotel surrounded by lovely gardens is excellent, very relaxing, spotlessly clean with good food and exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. We would not hesitate to visit again. Christine Woolf 16/10/01

Basically they are all great hotels! Voyager was the best in my opinion, although it did not have as nice a beach as the other hotels because it is on the North Coast. We used to live in Kenya and would take a vacation every year to Mombasa. I always looked forward to it. Excellent hotels. Ben Schuit 25/10/01

We found it to be very poor, the whole resort was cheap and dirty. The Voyager is described as medium class but is much lower than that in my opinion. We had large ants in the room, noisy security guards, poor holiday camp food, a luxury room without a view (apart from fat sunbathers around the pool!), noisy air conditioning units, the beach was very disappointing (none at high tide), the beach sellers were murder, there was no way you could leave the resort on foot (too dangerous and nothing to see anyway). We were due to get married there but made last minute changes and got married at the far superior Serena Beach Hotel for very little more money. We highly recommend the Serena but I would not send my dog to stay at the Voyager, it is a dump! Graham Angel 30/9/02

Have just returned from a fabulous two weeks in Kenya staying at the Voyager Beach Resort. Excellent facilities and the staff were exceptional - was made feel so welcome. Will definitely return - thank you very much Voyager! Catherine Massey 10/10/02

The Voyager is a fantastic hotel, wonderful facilities, extremely helpful and friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble. The food was excellent, having dinner in the garden and by the pool was very romantic with candle light and great entertainment. Views from sea view hotel room was breathtaking, coconut trees, beautiful gardens, white sand beach and blue/green sea. We will definelty be going there again soon. Clare Simcock 21/11/02

We have just returned from the Voyager about 4 days ago and will not be returning there again. Rooms (Cabins):- The standard cabin is dreadful. Very noisy (and inadequate) A/C, drab, dirty and depressing and very basic. The Superior cabin is probably 2* above it. Clean, well-appointed, Quite & Effective A/C, Fridge, Kettle, Fridge. Even the soap is better (no kidding - they pointed even that out when we had to upgrade to the Superior becasue we couldn't stand the basic room any longer (after 3 days)). Food & Drink:- Drinks were find and a fair range - more then enough for us. Food was awful, the worst I have had in many, many years. Some people said they liked it, but in 14 days there I had maybe 1 nice meal. Staff:- Staff were great, but to be honest, the people in Kenya are always friendly and helpful so this is more a comment about Kenyans rather then a plus for the hotel. Summary: Hotel is good - especially for kids - IF you want to lose weight by not eating for 2 weeks and you pay extra to get the Superior cabin David Loveluck 17/1/03

well what can i say ive been going here for 3 years and am returning in december and it just gets better every time we go. i met my boyfriend there and he is kenyan i make more friends every year i go the staff are just so friendly escially the animation team great for all ages including adults plenty to do my sister is getting married in 2005 there. i just love this hotel and reccomend it to anyone who likes being well looked after. if you would like more details or info please just email me and ill be happy to fill you in. Melissa 18/2/03

We visited the Voyager Beach in March 2003. We had a wonderful time, great food, great weather, friendly staff and plenty to do in the area. The standard rooms are a little basic compared to some hotels, however they are clean and are perfectly sufficient for the amount of time you spend in them. If you are desperate for a TV set and tea and coffee facilities you could upgrade to the superior rooms for a little extra. The food is great in all the restaraunts, with several theme evenings in the buffet restaurant, such as Indian, Italian, Mexican and Kenyan. If you are All Inclusive it's still worth trying the Smugglers Cove restaraunt, which you have to pay for, but will receive 50% discount. The glass bottom boat trip is also well worth doing. It takes a couple of hours and gives you a chance to snorkel off the coral reef (equipment is provided). The hotel also runs a shuttle bus service to nearby Haller park (also known as Bamburi nature trail). This goes on Saturday afternoon and is cheaper than a taxi. It's a great opportunity to see some wildlife close up, including a chance to hand feed the Giraffes at 3:00 each day. Kevin Roberts 30/3/03

Best hotel on the coast! Stayed at most, North & South coast and this is by far the best. New upgraded accommodation very comfortable; food scrummy and spoilt for choice; gorgeous position on the coast and the most important factor, staff exceptional - nothing is too much trouble. You must go! Pope family 14/4/03

Spent a week on safari then a week at Voyager, wonderful, food very good lots of choice, rooms lovely and clean, staff couldn't be more helpful, beach boys bit of a pain but a polite NO THANKS, usually works. would go back again but can't gets the date for this year. trying the Papillon Lagoon Reef hotel, hope its as good!! Debbie Quested 28/4/03

Well i hve just come back from going to the Voyager beach Resort for the 3rd time, and its still excellent. all my friends were still there and everyone remembered me! its a great holiday and kids will love it because all my friends on the Animation team treat them like royalty! you really should go there, its fantastic!!! Cya all again in easter 2004!!! Holly 4/5/03

We spent two weeks last November here and it was the best holiday we have had.Our daughter is 10 yrs old and had a fabulous time we hardly saw her as the animation team are superior .We had no problem leaving her in their capable hands as it was her choice. Each evening was different as eating locations were moved in the hotel grounds we will be back.Very relaxing holiday water sports excellent ,nothing is too much trouble for anyone. Donna and Andy Reynolds 25/5/03

We first went there in 1998 - when it was the Silver Star, it was so fantastic that we went back in 2000 for our wedding in the lush gardens. We again went in 2001 for our first anniversary. The staff, hotel, food, rooms and pools were so fantastic that it is calling us back to our favourite holiday destination - we are just about to book 2 weeks in December 2003. It is the best place to get married or to relax and chill out. I can see us coming here for many, many years. p.s I strongly recommend the pancakes for breakfast! Sophie Fairbank 25/6/03

I have just come back from the Voyager after staying there for three weeks. I found all the staff where very friendly and polite and could not do enough for you. All so the food was out of this world It was different every night with different themes and the waiters and staff dressed up. All ways entertainment on which is really good and a disco later. The place is clean and your rooms are to a good standard. There is so much to do in and outside the hotel which includes trips. We went to see the Dolphins. The hotel is good for people with and without children There is entertainment all the time day and night eg. watersports, vollyball, football etc. There is a pool only for adults and a fun pool which the children love. At night the disco goes off at eleven so that children can sleep however the bar is open 24 hours. At the end i give the whole place top marks for all and when leaving it was like leaving family. Paula Ambler 31/7/03

i visited voyager during the Kenyatta day holidays and i only have two words....DA BOM!! Ogechi Edgar 4/12/03

A fabulous resort! Perfect for vacation. Ken 24/12/03

We stayed at the Voyager resort for the firt 2 weeks in August 2003 for our Honeymoon. It was a fantastic holiday even though we had rain for all of the first week! The staff were all fab, really friendly and nothing was too much bother for any of them. We had dinner at the captains table on almost our last night and when the captain saw our cabin number and found out we were on honeymoon, he instantly realised we had not been put in a premium cabin (although we did have a sea view room which was what the free upgrade for the honeymoon package was)and arranged for us to be moved the next day, sadly that was meant to be our last night so we only got one night in the new room. We did in the end also get an extra nights holiday for free when at the last minute our flight was canceled, although some people were a little unhappy at this, to us it was a happy bonus. Again all staff of the Voyager and Kuoni were as helpful as possible. Just one last mention to our dear friend George the waiter, who was one of the most wonderful people you could wish to meet. I think he should be part of the management team. Toni & Matt 7/1/04

Paradise Hotel (former Whispering Palms Hotel)

Paradise Hotel (former Whispering Palms Hotel) -

28/11/2002 : Rahamim Anter, a blue-collar worker in an Israeli rope factory, had been saving a long time to take his family on a dream vacation. They came to the Paradise Hotel in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa to enjoy a respite from the escalating terrorism in their own country. Rahamim brought with him his wife Ora and their two sons Dvir, 13, Noy, 12, and their daughter Adva, 8.
On the day before Hanukkah, about 7:30 in the morning, a green Mitsubishi Pajero smashed through the hotel gate into the front door. A man wearing an explosives belt jumped out of the car, ran into the lobby of the hotel, and blew himself up. His two companions, still in the car, set off the powerful explosives they had packed. The building trembled and filled with thick black smoke.
"I saw the hotel roof blown off," recalled one witness. Others reported that moments later a small airplane dropped incendiary bombs that decimated some of the hotel rooms still remaining. The hotel was totally destroyed.
Nearly 100 people were killed or wounded. People covered in blood screamed and tried to find their family members. Children wailed that they wanted to go home. Human body parts scattered the ground. Trees around the hotel continued to burn for hours. "The whole hotel is burned. The whole hotel. There is a lot of smoke. The whole hotel is burned totally, both wings, the lobby and everything, it's all burned," said another witness. One of the survivors said it took several hours for medical help to reach the wounded. She said she saw bodies in pieces as the hotel burned around her.
Ten Kenyans died in the blast, most of whom were dancers welcoming the guests as they arrived. A few were housekeepers. Also among the dead were three Israelis, including Rahamim Anter's two sons. "The two Israeli children were torn apart and completely burned," said another witness.

The hotel in Kikambala is 32 km from Moi International Airport Mombasa and 27km from Mombasa Railway Station in Kikambala. It has 154 bed rooms with seaview, ensuite bath/shower, air-condition, private balcony. There are two swimming pools and one pool for children. The hotel is one of the oldest in the arera. The beach is one of the best in Kikambala and because shallow ideal for children. During low tide extensive beach walks are possible.

Contrary to the review by the disgruntled "Alex" online, I, and my late wife, found the Whispering Palms Hotel to be a fantastic, hauntingly beautiful, tranquil, and extremely friendly hideaway vacation locale. It featured the Indian Ocean right below your balcony, a hospitable and efficient staff, and a terrific dining room, cozy bars, and a daily "tea" on an outside terrace. There were also some conferences going on in various onsite meeting places comprised of civil servants, educators, and other civic leaders. It was truly an unforgettable venue! My wife and I had first visited the hotel on our honeymoon in 1978 and had the good fortune to return in late 1999 - to find that the hotel had maintained its high standards in all respects - despite the fact that earlier on there had been ethnic disturbances in the Mombasa area during the final period of the MOI government in Kenya. However, we were protected and undisturbed on Kikambala Beach along which the Whispering Sands was located and enjoyed our visit quite as much as the first time in 1978. The Whispering Palms deserves the glowing reviews that I read online - and definitely does not merit the one bitter dissenting view provided by "Alex" - whoever he is. DR. NORMAN E. HODGES 27/1/04

For a couple of years ago I and my family went to Kenya.. When my dad was young, he was staying at a youth hostal in Kikambala and one night he and his friends went to this hotel, Whispering Palms.. He remembered how nice he thought it was and when he took his family back to Mombasa he said, even if the travelcompany didn't recommend it, we are going to Whispering Palms! And we had a great stay at that hotel! Great crew and a lovely pool and nice rooms! Close, close to the sea! I really recommend it! Clara from Sweden 5/12/04

Was there in July 2002. Just seen (2007) it was bombed. Terrible thing to happen to such a wonderful hotel. Food extraordinarily beautifully presented. Kindness superb from all staff. Beach beside thatched 'cabins'. Utterly clean and tidy, beach even raked regularly. It now has to lie in my memory - and my photos. Mavis 1/10/07

I was disapointed with the rooms at this hotel, they were sparse and not very inviting. The so called "Queen" bed was really two twins pushed together! The bathroom was ugly and the shower barely worked. he beds were so stiff I felt like I was sleaping on concrete. The rest of the hotel was nice, the dining room was lovely, and the bars were nice. The water surrounding the dinning room and bar was pretty. The service at the bars and dinning room was slow and the service people were sometimes unclear. Overall, this was a dissapointing trip and I will not return. Alex 25/8/02

I stayed at this hotel for 10 days over the Christmas period in 1996 and had the most fantastic time. The rooms over looked the sea and the atmosphere was great. Being surrounded by so many palm trees really made the hotel live up to it's name! Hayley 30/3/03

I had the one of the most fantastic times in my life in this hotel. Especially for the fact that I went with my classmates as Hospital Hill School. Another good thing is that they accomadated us for a very reasonable price. Thankyou and may you continue with your good work. Martin Mureithi 6/11/03

No complaints excellent service & hotel. GILLES POIRIER 8/11/03

White Sands Hotel Mombasa

White Sands Hotel

Set amidst the swaying palms and fragrant frangipani trees on the north coast is Whitesands. The tropical climate is complemented by Arabic architecture and the private balconies of each room, most of which have a view of the Indian Ocean. There is an attractive wide beachfront with lawns and tall palms. Many of the rooms overlook the ocean and beach. The lounges and dining areas are in four separate open-sided pavilions with colourfully decorated pillars and ceilings. The hotel has more then 350 rooms and is large. Conference facilities: 3 conference rooms (max.400 theatre)

Great hotel! the rooms are much better than the nyali beach hotel and the facilities provided are excellent. the rooms are clean spacious and have wonderful seaviews. however, there is a but! the food is defintely not as good as nyali beach hotel. breakfast is ok although much to be desired. not enough variety. dinner was tasteless. i had to eat plain rice with steak as ther wasnt anything that tickled my fancy. for the price they are asking its not worth it and i d
on't think the pool does enough to suffice overall nyali beach hotel is better althought they have no slide! next time itll definetly be serena beach hotel! Abdul Khalif 10/9/05

Fantastic hotel, great food, wonderful service. The best hotel I've been to so far and I've been to alot. Would recommend it to everyone. Angie 13/9/05

Stayed here last month, what can i say the place is fantastic .The people the food the three swimming pools the night life just fantastic ! Steve Shuma 21/1/06

I have been to this place several times, and all i can say is the palce is SUPERB!! the beach is very cleana and the sand so white and pure. the service was very good, the rooms were xtra clean and magnificent, the dining hall was exquisite, and de food was ahhh! so mouth-watering. i wish i could go back to this place, it was like heaven on earth. i really miss mombasa! keep up the good work there at white sands. OOOHH! i really loved this place. Aisha 17/3/06

We stayed with (almost) our whole family in White Sands during Chrismass and New Year in 2003. It was the most beautiful holiday i ever, ever had! My parents, husband, two children and myself enjoyed our time at this magnificent beautiful hotel! Many thnx to the staff there, they really made our stay even more delightful! I can hardly wait to go back some time. The rooms were perfect, the service was great, the food was unbelievable extra-ordinaire and the beach..., what can I say..., it is just the place to be in Kenya! Tuta onana! Patricia Werner-Klaassen 21/9/06

I was not pleased with this hotel. It is NOT a 5 star hotel as advertised in certain sites. It is old and quite dirty and dank smelling. Service is great though. Beach is not really great for swimming. I would try another place if you are looking for a more swanky resort. Star 1/9/07

was there last year for around 1 week with my family. did not enjoy it one bit & will  not be going back. too corporate focused or maybe foreigner focused, i am kenyan. the service was dependent on the individual staff, some were warm but most cold. they only advised me about the kids club the night before i left and i was there with my 3 children so would have appreciated being advised earlier. style up!!! if you want a real holiday in mombasa, leopard beach is the way to go. once you go there you will never go elsewhere, no wonder they are booked by august for christmas!!! I had the pleasure of staying at the White Sands Hotel north of Mombasa in February 1999. That was an unforgettable holiday which I would love to repeat, preferably in February 2002. Marek KROLAK 11/9/01

My Husband and I recently (July 2002) enjoyed our honeymoon at the Whitesands Hotel. We stayed for a two week period and we throughly enjoyed our stay there. We found the hotel to be clean and comfortable with excellent entertainment and resources.
In particular, we found the hotel staff, including the owner himself, to be helpful and friendly at all times. Holly and Richard Lord 22/9/02

We stayed at Whitesands for our Honeymoon and could not have wished for better. We could have so easily stayed for a lifetime. All visitors should pay a visit to the village of Bombalulu nearby, totally enchanting and eye-opening to the values of life. Karen & James Haughton 12/11/02

I had the pleasure of spending several days at the White Sand hotel in 1963 repeat 1963..It was fabulous..The bar was made up of a boat..The owner was the barman...Is the giant turtle still alive? I am sure the property does not lokk anylonger the way it was then..Stan Biggerstaff 28/11/02

I will never forget that holiday it was the 1 of the best holidays i have been on and got to know hassan 1 of the life guards. Joel Davis 11/3/03

I've just returned from 10 days at Whitesands. I've stayed at Lawfords in Malindi, and the Bamburi Beach Club on previous visits to the Kenya coast. In my opinion nothing comes close to Whitesands. It might have been my state of mind at the time, but I absolutely fell in love with the place! From the moment I stepped into the enormous, cool, white marbled foyer I was hooked. I was lucky to have a "de-luxe" room and it was superb (TV, air cond. free papers/water...). Watersports were fine, Cocos Beach Bar excellent (Hi David, Monica!) and sprawling green lawns - fantastic! Mike Barrow 29/4/03

We stayed at Whitesands over Christmas 2002, and had a wonderful time, everything about this place was wonderful, (Hello to Geoffery) who very kindly looked after our every need. We are hoping to come back in the future, as we have both agreed that this was our best ever holiday and we are 52 years old, so we have had a few hols. Thanks to all staff there, everyone was so kind and helpful. Carol & Robert 10/5/03

I first stayed at whitesands in November 2002 for my honeymoon and again returned in December 2004 for my 30th birthday. I can not recommend the place enough! The staff are fantastic and we have made good friends with several people over there. The food is out of this world!! I am definitely going to return in the next year or so! Clare Woollatt 17/1/05

My wife and I stayed at Whitesands during the Christmas holiday in 2004. While we found the hotel very nice and the most of the food was good (except the meat) the room had a moldy airconditioner which caused my wife to become sick. We changed rooms three times and each room filled up with mold as soon as the AC was turned on. Obviously, we will never return to Whitesands. Adam Smith 20/1/05

Hi there we got married at whitesands. everything was perfect. room wow. wedding ceremony was just fantastic .wedding co-ordinator was great from choice of flowers , location for ceremony ,dancers to escort Gillian fron her room, video and album. food was excellent . snack bar was unbielevable. fillet steak as a snack mmmm. Pool with slide superb cocktails wonderfull staff. even sorted us (10) a large challet with video player to see our wedding tape and a free bottle of campaigne. outside a Barclays bank 50 yds away and local stores. and close enough to go to bamburi nature trail and tamarind dhow. you can see some pics on www.heatongallery.com under the artist section. Martin 22/2/05

I was married in Mombassa Feb 2003, honeymooned at White Sands and Bamburi Beach. Never was I more pampered and delighted. Looking forward to my return may 2006 Tammy Tavares 26/3/05

In feb we returned to whitesands for the 6th time.this time was not so good, the silent zone which is a favourite with a lot of return guests was more like a war zone with functions, the dress code for dinner seems to ignored by some guests, and the attendance of prostitutes at all bars was not something we agreed with .we have made our feelings known to the management and have been assured that all three of these points will returned to the status quo.i would be interested to read other comments regarding these matters, to see if things will indeed be returned to the old whitesands that we all enjoy.
